Michelle Amaro and Linda Gallieta Hurt in Allentown Crash on Interstate 78
Allentown, Pennsylvania (February 26, 2018) – Two people were hospitalized on Thursday evening following a multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer in Allenton, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Five vehicles were involved in the crash that took place at around 6:27 p.m. Thursday, February 22, on Interstate 78 at Mile Marker 58.5.
Police said the five vehicles had stopped for traffic ahead when a 2013 Cascadia Freightliner, driven eastbound on I-78 in the center lane by Juarez E. Hill, 48, of Newark, started moving backward and crashed into the front of a 2006 Honda Accord, driven by Linda V. Galietta, 45, of Doylestown.
The Honda got pinned under the trailer and began to rotate. As it did so, the Honda struck a 2011 Cascadia Freightliner, driven in the right lane by Eduardo C. Romeiro, 48, of Framingham, Massachusetts.
The Honda then hit a 2011 Nissan Maxima driven behind it by Michelle A. Amaro, 44, of Bethlehem.
The impact caused the Nissan to strike the front of a 2010 Toyota Camry, driven behind the Nissan by Tracy C. Carluccio, 69, of East Amwell.
Gallieta and Amaro were both transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury. The extent of their injuries was unknown.
No other injuries were reported.
Hill was cited for limitations on backing, police said.
